Race Report. Many thanks to all who ran today. It was a lovely sunny day and not as hot as last year which was nice. It was also a day which threw up some interesting stories. Firstly there was our winner on the day, Nicky McGee (Blackhawkbikes), who burst off the front at 1.5 miles and by the half way point had a lead of 1 and a half minutes, a lead which he held to the finish, despite being stung by a wasp on the way round and being able to hold a conversation like he was out for a stroll! He was followed home by race long adversaries Andrew Meskimmon (Dewsbury Runners) and unattached racer Kim Brown. Then there was the hard charging Pudsey Pacer Karen Pickles, who, as well as being first lady home just 5 minutes down on McGee, also finished a fantastic 5th overall. Regular silverware winners Maria del sol Carerra Vivar (Bingley Harriers) and Caroline Turner (Harrogate Harriers) rounded out the top 3 ladies. The winner of the F60 category was Gertrud Porter (Metro). Here is a lady that had travelled all the way from Denmark to attend a local wedding, and despite being up till 1.30am making merry, was able to top her category in fine style.Not bad for 60 odd, eh. And during my 'last runner' duties I came across the tenacious Jake Maltby, epitomising with every step he took what running means to so many. The determination and drive to improve yourself. From major heart surgery a few years ago to a 10 mile run today, that sounds like progress to me. Good luck Jake in all that you do. So, a fantastic day alround, you all deserve a pat on the back.
