Thanks to everyone who came along today, we hope you enjoyed yourselves!
A full race report will be coming soon...
Alexia
Ah, Alexia has managed to drag herself back from Tenerife and the beach bum lifestyle she so enjoys and compile a full entry list for this years race, just click on the above link. If you were not lucky enough to get a place in this years race we are sorry you missed out, you could of course come and support the runners and enjoy the atmosphere as a spectator, don't arrive too early though because Steve has a nasty habit of pouncing on people who look like they need a job.
The Course
The course starts at Sunnyside Farm in the centre of Arkendale, from here it heads out on Marton Lane and up towards the A1. Just before the flyover the route bears right down a footpath and joins Spitlands Lane which leads into Coneythorpe village. The route then follows the highway back towards Arkendale passing the water station at 6k. Opposite The Old Post Office the route turns left over a section of grazing land, a footbridge and a short section of private land before joining the Ferrensby Road back into Arkendale and the finish at Sunnyside. The well-marshalled course is suitable for all abilities and all sections can be run in normal road shoes, although due to the off road sections of the course it is not suitable for wheelchair athletes or pushchairs. See Course map for more details.
Due to the unprecedented success of last years race there will be no entries on the day this year.
This years race will better than ever and of course we will be encouraging beginners as much as possible, if this will be your first race and you have any concerns please contact one of us. We will be capping entries at 400 runners in order to maintain the character of the event. We want you to be safe and enjoy your day. You will be well catered for as usual and there will be more for the kids to do if mummy or daddy is running including:
MEET A SHEEP
Yes, this is your opportunity to get up close and personal with a real live sheep and its lambs. Its for the kids really, but if anybody else harbours any desire to stroke something usually only seen munching grass in fields we won't mind! Possibly a world first for a running event and an inspired idea we think, although I should mention that legal action may be taken against any males seen loitering near the sheep pen for unhealthy periods of time ( especially those from Lancashire).
LOADS OF FOOD
We know that running makes you hungry, don't despair we will be having a great big barbeque for you and your supporters. As well as tea and coffee ( provided by our generous sponsors YORKSHIRE TEA ) there will also be a large selection of home made cakes etc for those that need an instant sugar rush. All the proceeds from the sales of refreshments will be going straight into the church funds.
KIDS DASH
A 360m kids race, starts at 11.05am from the main race start line and finishes at the main race finish area. All ages can take part and the finishers will receive a medal. And its FREE!
